Thought Experiments
Thought Experiment
One day, a prince wakes up and finds himself in unfamiliar surroundings. He looks across the bed and sees a stranger. He is adamant that he has been kidnapped but everyone around him wonders what he means. When the prince looks in the mirror he sees a stranger. He has the body of a cobbler and is in the cobbler’s home and wearing his clothes. At the same time, the cobbler wakes up in the palace and immediately goes to the guards insisting he has not intruded intentionally, but when he looks in the mirror, he sees the face of the prince. The two have swapped bodies.
Question
Is the prince still the prince, having all the prince’s memories and thoughts but being in a different body? Does the body itself not make the person?
